Antioxidants & Vitamins
Antioxidants are a group of elements (vitamins, minerals, enzymes, etc.) that protect our cells from the harmful effects of free radicals. The most popular antioxidants are vitamin А, beta-carotene, manganese, zinc, selenium, vitamin С and vitamin Е.
Free radicals can damage cell’s genetic material (DNA) and are a contributing factor to more than 60 medical conditions including aging, muscle, joint and tissue inflammation, and circulatory, nervous (including brain cells) and immune system failures.
We are exposed to free radicals daily through pollution, stress, smoking, radiation and harmful by-products resulting from regular metabolic processes in our body. The antioxidants produced naturally by our body are insufficient to neutralize all of the free radicals that bombard our body on a daily basis. Further, we rarely consume enough food rich in antioxidants, such as fruits and vegetables, as most of our food is processed, is treated with pesticides or loses a considerable portion of its nutrients by the time it reaches our table.
Therefore, it is extremely important to ensure an adequate intake of antioxidants through fresh foods and supplements.
