What is it?
Lutein is a member of the carotenoid family. It is fat-soluble yellowish pigment found in some plants, algae and photosynthetic bacteria. It is thought to play a role in protection against age-related macular degeneration and age-related cataract formation.
How does Lutein work?
Lutein exerts its ophthalmo-protective effects in 2 ways. First it filters out and neutralizes phototoxic ultra-violet radiation and second it has antioxidant activity.
